According to a report yesterday, Vestas Wind Systems (the symbol for U.S. investors is VWSYF.PK) announced that it won a large order for 182 wind turbines in the U.S. The purchase by BP Alternative Energy North America will increase Vestas' wind portfolio in this country by an additional 300 MW. The value of the order was not disclosed.
Vestas appears to be the leading European company in its sector. According to the announcement, this large order won't affect its 2007 earnings. However, going forward, 2008 earnings should directly benefit, since delivery of the 182 wind turbines will begin in the third quarter of 2008, according to the company. Would we buy VWSYF.PK right now? The stock has more than doubled in the past year, which gives us pause to think and an inclination to definitely watch this stock and consider buying on pullbacks. Again, this Danish company is the world's biggest maker of wind turbines, so if you want to invest in this green sector then Vestas would be "Best-of-Breed" for sure. We like the solar energy sector better, but it seems that all green investors should be exposed to some wind energy investments. Between the U.S. and Europe's need for sustainable sources of energy, the future should be "blowing strong" for this company. Source
